On the IFT in Chicago we had good new contacts with companies from all over America. In particular, Latin American producers have very exclusive natural products for the flavor-, the food- and the cosmetics-industries, which can be supplied in consistently high quality and availability on favorable terms to Europe. The first products are tested in the market.
Despite a good harvest of carrageenan raw materials in Indonesia, the local manufacturing industry seems not yet to be able to compete on prices with the competition in from Northeast Asia, to whom they sell most of the raw material. It is to be hoped that the new government will develop appropriate proposals in this regard.
Indonesia offers enormous opportunities. The industry in the area of food additives is investing in the further processing of raw materials, which are harvested large quantities and best quality. They are looking for access to the European quality market. Best prospects i.e. for hydrocolloids, such as carrageenan. First sample deliveries are already underway.
Excellent contacts at the “World Perfumery Congress” in Deauville for our friends of PYRAZINE SPECIALTIES from Georgia, USA. Expertise for raw materials of perfumes could be proven and contacts with the European Flavor Industry could be consolidated. The inquiries from Europe for basic materials for natural products rise enormously.
Very interesting trends that some newsletters foresee …very popular are: More products with „Free from…“, great chances for specific products designed for the elderly population and – I love that one – Ingredients as „marketing-value-proposition“ Jan.2013
While looking at actual trends for Food Ingredients it is nice to read, that already 2000 years ago functional supplements were used in food to prevent diseases. In a shipwreck of a roman vessel, sunk at the coast of Tuscany, zinc-food-supplements were found, apparently used to help against dermatological problems. Jan.2013
